Harlandale Independent School District is currently under investigation by the Texas Education Agency for issues related to governance, nepotism, contract procurement, and conflict of interests. The investigation is a response to several complaints implicating various individuals.
In one instance, it has been alleged that a management employee hired a number of his relatives at the district; that this employee made a low-priced Gulf Coast land purchase from a couple who has done business with the district; and that the employee made a recommendation for a big insurance contract in favor of a vendor that employed a former school board member who later came under investigation by the FBI for conspiracy.
